Description
Raised in the north of the forest, she never fit in with humans or elves. She wore rags, carried a bow and moved like a cat. She trusted only Klemidius: they had known each other as children and escaped the same asylum years apart. She feared spiders and darkness yet saw in the dark. She looked eighteen, but the old people of Stejara had known her much longer.
History
On the first night of the chronicle, on the Old Road, her bow saved the camp from panthers. From the weapon tree of the Sunless Citadel she received the unique arrow, with a hummingbird-like tip and “death to the dragon” inscribed in every language.
She crossed the threshold of death in the skull pit of the Barrowmaze and lay three days in a coma while the mob of Helix prepared the witches’ grove for her, then walked again. On the way to the caves she beheaded one of the Caladas, the painted wives of Caladan, with a single blow.
Sacrifice
In the plant cathedral of the Sunken Citadel, a new structure, vegetal and artificial and tied to Bellaca, had grown from the remains of the destroyed tree. The tree demanded blood and Kira offered herself. Before the stump a companion promised to love her in another life too, and beheaded her. Her blood watered the roots. She returned with green hair and plant power, and a second identity soon consumed the first: “Kira ya no es Kira; ahora es Bellaca” (“Kira is no longer Kira; now she is Bellaca”). Bellaca, the power that dwells in the weapon tree and outlives its hosts, had a new host; Lali was the first.
As Bellaca
She fascinated with her voice, bit with monstrous strength, healed by consuming life and could detach her head from her body. In the cliff caverns her head left her body and bit the flying head of an old smoking witch until it was destroyed.
In the arena of Arden Vul she wielded the sword Life Drinker (Bebedora de Vida), a fruit of the tree, against the body of Mortan occupied by the Pope. The Custodes reduced her to burned flesh before the second egg detonated.
Legacy
She sacrificed herself while she still had Hope, for love and not as a sentence. The promise at the stump proved literal: all died and continue in another form. Among Los Condenados who wake in Hell, it is open which of the two descends: the ancient power that collects hosts, or the girl from the asylum.
