The Pact of the Nobeliares is the bargain that Los Condenados (“the Condemned”) struck with Belial to revive Mortan, binding their souls to ending the light of Pope Alexander VI.

The invocation

After the cursed procession broke up, the revived Silas lay beheaded and Mortan, the axe warrior, had been killed by frost wraiths. A companion mingled Mortan’s body with Silas’s remains and invoked the wishes Silas had died with.

A rat-turned-bat familiar whispered the name; despite objections it was shouted three times. They found themselves in a five-pointed star; the glove of the companion of the faith turned red-hot and was seized (“this is mine”). Above Silas’s skull a bearded head took flesh and asked for the wish.

The terms

Belial’s condition: “Irán a acabar con la luz del Papa Alejandro VI… o darán el alma” (“You will go and end the light of Pope Alexander VI… or give your soul”); their souls cannot leave this plane until then.

Kira, the warrior companion, wished Mortan revived and the last battle’s harm undone. Belial’s sentence: five would bear arms around her, and hard would be the serpent’s sentence. Mortan rose, awaited in Hell; the glove stayed as a pledge. On Kira’s hand appeared a ring inscribed “¿Cuándo la serpiente terminará de comer? ¿Cuándo terminará de cerrar el círculo?” (“When will the serpent finish eating? When will it close the circle?”). Briefly they saw skulls, a river and a serpent carved on a monolith, where Hell records owed souls; thereafter they belonged to the circle of the serpent.

Aftermath

The Abbot excommunicated them as proto-assassins of the Pope. They named themselves nobeliares. The pact was paid in the arena of Ardis Vala, where Belial said “it is done”. Dieter, the red-cloaked emissary, was his vehicle; the cult’s first work was the Red Mass of Helix.
