Background

Raised by Liverpool whale-oil traffickers, he is a port-and-tavern street fighter and hooligan of the year the Football League was founded; he met the Picts and served in the navy. His dynasty opposes Graz’zt (“Graz’zt”), “a dark lord who pulls the strings from Africa,” whose treachery felled his father and exiled him. On a platform risen from the Gulf, the “King of Light,” Cakravartin, confirmed that his enemy is Atlantis’s too and sent him to recruit the Deep Ones and lead them off “the path of violence.”

Arrival

He came in the invisible Atlantean wasp-ship, metal with yellow helicopter-like wings, risen from the water and named “White Anglo-Saxon Protestant,” saying only: “My name is Rudolf.” When the twelve bulls of the Zodiac stormed the deck, he threw one overboard by the horns; it was Gorgona transformed, who later thanked him.

Legacy

Through him the group inherits the enmity with Graz’zt, recurring until Cairo at the end of Antiterra; that “Graz’zt” is GRDT = Tyriel, closing in 1901. He is distinct from Antonia, the archer who returns on her own, and from Rodolfo, dragon man of the Circle of the Dragons.
