The Comptroller is an agent sent by the system of the zodiacal platforms to take over a square whose guardian stopped paying tribute; he impersonated Gorgona and proved to be a Sydney police detective trapped on this side of a portal.

The false Gorgona
During the assault of the Zodiac bulls, the rider of the six-legged dragon who claimed to be Gorgona passed every test of law and truth. A barber’s detail gave him away: he had long hair, and Gorgona does not. Beneath a glamour-reinforced disguise was a wig, and beneath it a stranger who confessed he was “something worse” than a guardian: a comptroller sent to intervene in the square (Aries) whose guardian had defaulted. The system of the Game of Shadows has guardians, tributes — and auditors. To Big Bull, another non-paying guardian, they would send “a worse one”. In disguise and mounted, he kept a bull that was an angel from boarding the Atlantean ship.
The Sydney detective
A detective of the Australian government, he was investigating why the plain of his country was attacked with demons: a gigantic demonic buffalo had crossed a portal and nearly razed Sydney; tribes from the other side were freed; someone blew up a bridge. Disguised to gather intelligence, he crossed a portal in some mountain mines that he should not have, and was trapped on this side. In his drift he met one Banjo and “another Stormy”, namesake of the dead musician, who gave him information.
Bound by Rudolf’s fists, he was brought before Big Bull, who found no firm proof that he had attacked anyone and did not condemn him. He remains imprisoned at Fort Clark, false hair and all.
