Description

She has loose blond hair to the waist, a small bag as her only luggage and a rifle slung on her back. Two sets of details are recorded together without explanation: field gear (a short skirt, boots, a tight leather breastplate over a body changed by pregnancy) and an iconic image (a small tiara and a golden halo of light).

Weapons

At first she declared: “With the bow. It’s the only thing I have.” The bow held a reserved power she could trigger at will and had not yet used. She shot arrows in pairs, one with white feathers and one with gray. Later she no longer had bow and arrows, only a rifle, which she let go when needed.

History

She is recorded aboard La Londra; in the water beside the endangered ship, while someone prays, “Save our friend Antonia. Do something so she can get close to the ship”; resting among her companions; and in the ambush of Madrid 1887, where “Antonia, the archer, is over there” serves as a tactical marker.

Child

She says she is “finishing the first trimester of pregnancy”. The child’s name is disputed, Miguelita or Martin, and its sex is not fixed. A rumor names Lotario as the father, recorded as doubt, not fact. When the child appears, she drops the rifle and stays “covering her son”.

Open questions

  • What the halo means, and whether everyone sees it, is unexplained.
  • Why she lost the bow, and what became of its unused power, is unrecorded.
  • The interval between the first trimester and the scene with her born child is not fixed.
  • Her origin, why she joined the commission and her tie to the captain of La Londra are unknown.
