Lady Deino (also Lady Bella Penélope, or the Witch) is a mature, strange woman who rules the Central Precincts of the Beastmen in the Halls of Thoth of the Ardis Vala Mega-Dungeon.

She is the “mother” of the Beastmen, disciplined goat-, rat- and pig-like beastmen: about 115 soldiers and 40 civilians, a co-opted cohort under strict military hierarchy. Her second is Count Skleros, about 160 years old; Count Trisko the Natty commands the Long Range Cavern Patrol. Their patrols keep order, trade, seek no expansion, and warn friendly visitors not to seek an audience with her.

- The first power the Seekers met in the dungeon.
- Ally of the Trocadero de Ritornello, with dealings over a collar and a mephit; through him she gave the companions an amulet that glows near the undead, a Ring of Free Action and a Ring of Spell Storing (up to three spells).
- Whitemane of the Inn of the Lost (Troll Lifts) supplies her rastite lotus powder through traders.
- Former ally or counterpart of the other lords of the dungeon.
Open questions
- Whether she is an avatar of an archaic Greek goddess: Deino (“terrible”) is one of the three Graeae, sister of Enyo and Pemphredo, sharing one eye and one tooth.
- Her pacts and ties to the infernal planes or deities.
