Description
Italian-born, he lived in Argentina and agitated in the Iberian Peninsula; a disciple of Malatesta, with Clastres as his favorite author. About a meter tall, with beret or chef’s hat, glasses, apron and shotgun, he fights with a metal-edged rolling pin and makes magic “eat me” cookies that enlarge or shrink. His bombs are disguised as pastries. At sea he proposed turning the ship pirate and threatened those who refused.
Self-immolation
After the dragon eggs reached Atlantis, a guard captain, Mirko, told him that “wherever there is society, there is a State”. Ludovico answered “yo soy la sociedad contra el Estado” (“I am society against the State”) and ate one of his own bombs, shouting “¡Viva la anarquía!”, aiming the blast only at himself. It blew off his jaw; he barely survived. The Atlanteans judged it cowardly.
Later the group found a letter from him in a loot chest: he can no longer read, write or hear, and fears his voice sounds horrible. It repeats the motto and says goodbye. His family, impoverished Spanish emigrants, remained stranded in the Carnival circus over the swamp.
Ariel
Ludovico and Ariel, the exiled Atlantean swordsman-paladin, are distinct characters; in one scene both act separately.
Conflicting accounts
- He wounded himself with a grenade; or ate one of his bombs.
- He is a dwarf; or a gnome/dwarf alchemist-baker.
- His name sometimes alternates with Ariel’s.
