The Silkworm (or Silk) is a colossal aberration that weaves beneath Zaira, the city of eternal return that repeats its day; its web is what makes the day return.

Description

It is never seen directly; only its work: threads and webs falling from the sky, implosions, a geyser of acid — the plot that repeats. Its mouth is a circle fringed with eye-gems, the same gems the emissaries wear on their arms and that Auro recognized in hell: “they are like its eyes.” It is mimetic rivalry made flesh: “a worm that wants to be God.”

History

Every attempt to break the loop — killing the dark knight, saving Minaya, returning the baby, preventing the death — came back, because the one weaving from below kept the rope taut over the abyss. The only way was to cut the rope: lose on purpose and hand the gems to the visitors of the Castle of the Prism so that they would summon the Pleroma and destroy the Worm. The price was the release of Oblivion, which consumed it. When the Worm fell, Zaira fell too.
