Pleroma is a divine entity of absolute balance that manifests in the White Tower of the Castle of the Prism, at the climax of Zaira. Its humanoid form is composed of balanced light and dark; it holds a sphere of maximal positive energy in one hand and one of maximal negative energy in the other, and stars are visible on its ears.

The choice

It offers the group a binary choice: from darkness toward light, or from light toward darkness. The head is severed by the inner force of the sphere (a “guillotine of darkness”), the soul enters the sphere and is reincarnated in a new form chosen from a table of 1000 races, and the shadow corruption is removed. All the companions choose darkness to light. The mechanism is a choice between vectors of transformation, not between good and evil.

Pérsico, a Persian cleric and aasimar of Zoroaster, takes the opposite path, light to darkness, as a “living dead being”. This fits his later drift: in Imola he becomes a vampire lord of the city.
