The Ripple Effect (Efecto en Cascada) is a drain in the gesta (campaign-cycle) of Pretty Women in Antiterra that strips one faculty after another and causes time dilation: twenty years of aging in two days. Its consequences weaken the group.

Description

Linked to the use of the platforms (the Columns, the zodiacal platforms whose use triggers the aging) and to time travel. The cost is not shared: the traveler pays while the cosmos appropriates it.

The LIB chronicle identifies the source as Mount Nevermind, a womb-mountain that “mines metal as metal” and exports vitality: whoever casts there faints, whoever inhabits it ages too much. The roughly 20 years the group suffers at once on reaching Paris are the bill for that underground passage.

Plate

A technical diagram: at the top a young man in a determined pose; below, in five descending rows, clones of the same man ever older (graying hair, bent bodies, trembling hands) down to three small mummified corpses at ground level. Cosmological hourglasses stand at the sides: the left counts the one who suffers the effect, the right the cosmos that appropriates. A ruined city lies behind.

Relationships

  • River Ucronos: the gem-world’s time channel; the dilation operates on its current.
  • Supra Father: temporal deity who rules the cosmic cost of travel; the “clock of the cosmos that appropriates” falls in his domain.
  • Templars of Time: paladins of chronological balance; this is the kind of rupture they must correct.
  • Antiterra’s anomalous temporal physics makes the effect possible.
