Lineage
Son of Rantar Alfa, the first queen, of the Blue House, descended from Gilgamesh the immortal. The family has constant access to the marble cliffs, which are being mined.
The sleeping prince
Ordinarily he is asleep; he “lost his spark.” After rescuing a child from a fire he said: “forgive me, I did not come with my devil… I have no more.”
He is placed in the capital, Uruc, where messengers and legal aid were sent to disentangle him from some affair; in Nesut Biti, as governing authority, asleep; and on the Mount of Purgatory. His lawyers, the Cortagarlandas, are “sleepy lawyers” and cutthroats “literally.”
The radiant prince
Another description: long tunic, golden sash, large white stone; hair white as wool, face white as snow, blazing eyes, feet like forge-glowing bronze, a voice like the ocean’s roar. On the Mount of Purgatory he pulled travelers from the infernal river, radiant, and summoned a host of avenging angels.
The key and the marriage
Only he can authorize use of the key to the land of the Black House. His engagement to Talia Cristalia — heroine, Captain, daughter of the governor — is a political alliance between noble houses, on which hopes of restoring him rested. There was also an effort to “break the engagement he has with his daughter,” whose daughter unstated. His return was declared decisive: “if he comes back without me, then the matter is truly over.”
Conflicting accounts
- The princes are distinct brothers: Harran, eldest, engaged to Miranda de Torrelices, a princess “of distant and very rich lands,” with a brother excluded from succession and a Summer Palace in Uruk; Ravani, second; Debo, third.
- The records alternate them in one sentence (“the crown prince Jarran not Debo is the third”), and the forms Skarnar, Harrion, Harren and Príncipe de Evo are undisambiguated: possibly one prince under misheard names.
Open questions
- What his “spark” and “devil” were, and how the sleeping prince relates to the radiant one.
- What the key is and what lands it opens; what affair entangled him in Uruc.
