Uruk the Blue is a city of Vala, in Babylon to the west, currently the world’s principal city. It takes its epithet from its rulers, the Blue House, and the world’s time is counted by its dynasties.

Location

Ur-Draxa, its counterpart, lies to the east; “the sea is to the east” but “reaches here”. The “whole gap” between the two cities “now seems to be closed again”. Travelers have been told, as their origin, “you came from Uruk the Blue”.

Description

“A city among hills with buildings”, crowned by a ziggurat built “thousands of years ago”. A temple holds two unnamed colossi about 30 meters tall: “a lord with a sword” and “a lord of lightning, a kind of Jupiter”. The city’s blue is a daytime sky blue; a Khan is described with “bluish skin like the day of Uruk the Blue”.

Government

An Ensi governs. The Blue House is home to “the true lineages and elites” with whom alliances are made. The current era is the 171st dynasty. “The principal [city] at this moment is Uruk, the Blue”: cities take turns. Uruk acts as an integrating empire and operates abroad through the Blue Group, present in Nesut Biti.

Conflicting accounts

  • An early record says “Mugla Azul, of Babylon”, which others fix as Muralla Azul (Blue Wall); whether that is the city, a wall in it or another entity is unsettled.
  • An unconfirmed reputation of corruption that can be drunk: “to drink the corruption of Uruk the Blue” (substance, moral state or both; fact or belief).

Open questions

  • What the gap was, what opened it and what its closing means.
  • How Ensi, Blue House and lineages rank; whether the Blue Group is the House, a faction or the imperial administration; whether rule is from temple or palace.
  • Condition of the buildings, population and economy.
