Madeline Boulet is a camp-raised former soldier who founded the St. Pierre Inn outside Paris and works during the Fronde with M. Alfonse.

Born on the German side of the Thirty Years’ War, at the battle of the Dessau Bridge, she lost her family to typhus. After a French army raid she was adopted by Marie Boulet, who had just lost her son Pierre. Raised among soldiers, she learned to shoot, load and loot, and befriended those who treated her as an equal, among them the wild Bernard and her brother-in-arms Marcel. Finding Paris intolerable, she used her savings and loot to buy a country house and made it the inn, named after Pierre, co-founded with Marcel; Marie spent her last years there. She now rides her warhorse between the inn and the city.
