Bernard is a company soldier who appears in the immediate circle of Madeline Boulet during the first months of the Fronde. His surname is not preserved; period testimonies mention only his first name.

His presence beside Madeline points to a comradeship forged in an earlier gesta (campaign-cycle), possibly on the German front or in the Pyrenean passes. He speaks bluntly and acts economically. His interventions in the convulsed Paris of 1648 are fragmentary: he appears, disappears and reappears.
