Fort Clark is a fort of the Buffalo Soldiers in Texas, not far from the border, in Antiterra in 1888. Stormy served there with the 10th Cavalry, and Big Bull, his retired major, comes from there.

Role
Its value in the chronicle is jurisdictional rather than military: it is the place where the law does not enter. When the group is exposed to the customs officer and the U.S. Marshals, Big Bull offers, through an emissary, a second refuge where neither the Texas Rangers nor the Marshals would look for them. An army fort thus serves as a free zone against the state’s other two police forces.
