History

  • They have their own song (“We are fighting bulls of the buffaloes”), which Stormy plays on guitar when he introduces himself.
  • They sustain the chain of favors that supports the group north of the border. Big Bull (“Big Buffalo”) sends Stormy as emissary to the meeting with the customs officer and the U.S. Marshals, and offers a second refuge at Fort Clark, where neither Texas Rangers nor Marshals would look.
  • They are the force with which the state of Texas will be conquered; their chief is the guardian of that territory. It is warned that “the drones have infiltrated the Blacks”. Big Bull is slow to anger, “but when it comes it is like a volcano”.
  • Later, Colonel Big Bull appears with a thousand Buffalo Soldiers on the river frontier.
  • Stormy, of the 10th Cavalry, turns a corner and meets his end: a hum, swords cutting the air, his clothes and his arteries. He tried to levitate and could not avoid death.
