Description

Dis is “the oldest heart, of bronze turning to iron” — the industrialization of hell. Dis is the city of Dis Pater. When he enters a hall, the rod of office materializes in his hand as he walks to his seat. Among the archdevils he is one of the most progressive, the one of metal constructions.

How he collects

He does not kill; he levies. From each who passes through his layer he takes something different. From the Son of the Wind he first took his fat, then laid the geas that defines him: “for every person you kill, intentionally or not, you will plant a cypress.” (“These seeds won’t be enough for me.“)

When Crisandre’s sword — which had already been to hell and ended several fifth-layer devils — turned to light as it neared him, Dispater took it by the blade like butter: “Careful with these toys, kids, they can hurt someone.”

The one who knew

He learned Lucifer’s plan when Barbatos was brought down: of the three dark beings who turned in that confrontation, one was his spy. Hence the judgment that Mephistopheles is old school, while with Dispater one can surely deal.
