History

In the Pits of Azharul, Tiamat’s pits, each colored cathedral keeps one of the mother dragon’s consorts; the white cathedral, inside Tiamat’s cavern, must be passed first. When the emissaries negotiated passage for the pregnant woman and gave him the golden bough, the dragon was pleased rather than enraged: he shrank to a king’s stature — a tall elf with white skin and silver hair — and took the name Arianrod.

His lover would not return, and the closed door suited him. He left his cathedral with a large bag, offered a dragonlance and a token of good fortune, and put himself at their service: “you’ll have the right to ride me”. He became Auro’s new companion, with a dragoness mount lent from the pits on condition it not be used against him. He owes two things: to bring a cerberus to Dispater, lord of Dis, and to solve his own mystery — what happened to Tiamat, whose cavern was empty (he suspects one “Ti”, who lost her memory, may be her).

Relationships

  • He mirrors Graz’zt: “the tall, handsome white one and the tall, handsome black one” — perfect rivals, neither meaningful without the other.
  • His name holds that of Arian, and echoes the Arianrod/Arianrhod named in another chronicle as Arian’s son; the link is to be traced.
