Description
It lies in the heart of the retronymic New York of the thirties, the world-city disguised as its own past. Its public face is a front agency: one enters the arena by registering as a lanista, the ancient dealer who bought and trained gladiators, so that the blood business is handled like a talent office.
The arena is guarded by the Curator Drone, an automaton wearing the colors of Centurion, the fallen Roman hero. It is run by the Roman family — August and his daughter Saturnalia, revived rivals of Centurion and heirs to his old feud. Among its secrets, the Circus keeps “the other drug”, a reserve of essence (ambrosia) that its owners no longer remember where they left.
