The Amulet of the Planes is a cosmological artifact whose door and key were separated: the key was thrown to the far side of the dual rift, into the abyss of the goddess of dragons. It has been sought repeatedly, most notably by Primus, the Lord of Order.

Nature

The canonical document of the Supreme Ones states: «Debemos separar la puerta de la llave» (“We must separate the door from the key”). The story began with the dual rift: there was a key which, “through fate or stupidity”, was thrown to the other side — possibly the Abyss, “a strange abyss where the goddess of dragons lived”, probably Tiamat. The Amulet is the door; using it first requires recovering the key. It belongs to the same cosmological order as the Rod of Infinity.

History

The artifact was sought on other occasions as well.

  • Primus, machine-god of Mechanus, planned to order the march of his servants outside the normal rhythms and cycles of the universe to find the Amulet, taking the Modrons out of their cyclical march. He was killed by “the Rex” (Néorex / Graz’zt) before carrying out the plan; the March of the Modrons then continued by inertia.
  • The Maimed, an adventuring band of young ladies, gathered information on its whereabouts. Their last recorded mission sent them to the Pits of the Demon Spider on Graz’zt’s commission to recover it.
  • The Lord of the Lead Hand, a protector god and enemy of duality, named Arian in the context of the arc.

Open questions

  • Who holds the Amulet now, and its status at the close of the Supreme Ones cycle, are unresolved; the key is probably still in the abyss.
