Description

The Maimed are a band of adventuring young ladies magically mutilated by Papi Balor. Mónaco’s lower half is a flexible tail ending in a whip, used for fighting and moving; she is the counterpart of Chan, a human with a serpent arm. Her aristocratic education later lets the group operate in high society.

History

Like Liddha, she is the mother of children devoured by Papi Balor, “who surprised them disguised as a cook”. This loss drives her revenge; with Liddha she forms the group’s maternal-avenger pair. Her children’s names perish, which is linked to the March of the Modrons, “or rather, to Papi Balor in that story”; they are not recovered.

She turned Cronos, the titan who originally owned the Tavern of the World Serpent (in his aspect as a planar barkeeper, not the Greek time god as such), into a cat. The group took the tavern as its base without killing him.

Her arc follows that of the Maimed:

  • liberation after the victory over Papi Balor;
  • the Library of Mirrors;
  • the defeat of Moloch in Baator via the Infinite Staircase;
  • the taking of the tavern, later destroyed by the March of the Modrons;
  • a last mission for Graz’zt, to the Pits of the Demon Spider, to recover the Amulet of the Planes.
