The Zone is the band’s home region in the 2087 chronicle, where the quarantine became perpetual. It is also called the Maelstrom, because the psychic-digital vortex that envelops the planet is thickest there.

Description
Most of the population lives shut indoors in absolute dread of contact, taking refuge in virtual reality while the streets rot. The few who broke confinement survive in strongholds such as Kreider’s Hardhold, warrens pierced by tunnels that once reached London, Paris and a clandestine Russian station (exiled Russian soldiers). The landscape holds dead railcars, sheds swallowed by vegetation such as the Subway Greenhouse, and the still-running Refinery & Dam. It recalls Chernobyl: a disaster that has passed and is still happening.
Role
The band set out from the Zone to the healthy woods, the floating cities and the heart of the network, and always returned to it. The luxuries of the Methuselahs and the televised shows are paid for by the misery of those left inside. When the Internet finally fell and the first child in a long time was born, it was in the Zone.
