The Northern Crown is both a 17th-century colonial domain on the east coast of the northern continent of the twin world Antiterra and the ship that administers it. Domain and ship share one flag and one authority: a colonist on the ship stands, legally, on the colony.

Description
Also called the Northern Crown (Corona del Norte).
- The ship: a 17th-century galleon with a dark hull, decorated stern and a large flag on the mainmast whose crossed pattern local sailors recognize at once; NORTHERN CROWN is carved on the stern. It is depicted arriving for the first time at the colony’s port, with a fortress and palm trees on the shore.
- The domain occupies uneven coastal strips and coexists, “problematically”, with the native inhabitants.
- The annual round: the ship sails each year between colonial and metropolitan ports across the Atlantic, carrying orders out and resources back.
The flag
The flag is the domain’s own, not the metropolitan Empire’s. The first governors created it when such insolence was punished by hanging; the metropolis tolerated it because the domain supplied timber, furs and gold.
The chronal fold
Its 17th century is not the final century of Antiterra, the A.D.A. count of the Regulators’ cycle, or the pre-Submersion period of Atlantis. It is a separate cosmological fold, still open in the present cycle. Travelers from other folds usually have to relearn the calendar.
Open questions
- How the fold fits with other periods is not fully explained.
- Its relationship with Uchronic Paris is unclarified.
