Description

He is shown on deck, spyglass to his right eye, in a black skull-and-crossbones tricorn and black-embroidered blue frock coat, with pistol, saber and pointed beard, pursuing a distant ship. He sees things his crew does not.

His double name is a double signature, English and Latin, one for each side of the pact. The Green Dragon said of him: “Es poderoso. Por algo hizo de su país un mundo.” (“He is powerful. There is a reason he made his country a world.“)

History

He is one of the few recorded 16th-century time travelers. The Green Dragon corrupted him in a dubious alliance that bore fruit worse than its parents.

In 1579 he landed in California and named the coast New Albion; logging, blood, fire and the death of ancestral turtles followed. Some Akashic records hold that the landing opened a non-human door between the ocean and something else.

The Melancholy Medallion

The medallion, which later reached the Northern Crown cycle through Lope de Vega, opens in precise circumstances a door to Dante’s Hell; asked about Drake, it shows lasciate ogni speranza as prophecy. Drake reappears from death when the bearer hits the right day.

He entered the Northern Crown archive through the Green Dragon, and Harrison Solar referenced him on its final day (Farruco Dragged into the Well).
