The Lord of the Gates is the cosmic antagonist of the Liberators’ cycle in Antiterra, a power whose name must not be spoken, invoked as Jock Sotot / Jock Sotón / Yoxototl. It is the Antiterran face of the same power the New World chronicles call Yog-Sothoth, not a different entity.

Nature

The litanies of Black Adams call it “the gate and the key.” It co-opted the zodiacal platforms a century before the New World and was among the “Masonic enemies” of New York in 1784.

It reaches whoever knows another’s future or past (“touched by Jock Sotot”) and enters through the dream of anyone who has ever crossed a gate: it can make a body vanish and trap the mind in a host on another world, reincarnated after centuries. The Liberators’ only defense is the curse-protection of not dreaming. Its “less malign” avatar is Tawil at-U’mr, “the prolonger of life,” who gives magic mirrors and opens paths in exchange for gifts.

It covets this world because the Gem of Creation, a seed that creates and imprisons, sleeps here.

History

In New York, 1784 A.D.A., the lodge Mirando hacia el Futuro (“Looking Toward the Future”) tried to bring its avatar into the city; the closing of the platforms kept it out.
