Pepe Bacchiano is a pamphleteer (pasquinero) and one of the most active agitators of the resistance in the city of Santa María de Torregrises, capital of the Rosas regime. His acid pen, able to ridicule the regime in four lines, earned him a reputation in the cellars where hidden printed pamphlets circulate. He is said to have helped treat more than one person, and to take a moment to think before a risky mission.
He links disparate cells: thieves of the Mercado de Abasto, dockworkers of the port, and the circles meeting at the Pulpería de la Viña. Information flows through him before anyone acts. Movements in the contraband trade are also attributed to him; he neither confirms nor denies them.
With Lieutenant Fausto he planned the assault on the federal printing press, which ended with the workshop in ashes and the catacombs rumbling. He hesitated, it is said, but he was there. He agitates against the power of Colonel Carmín.
