Description

He is the one dwarf who bore two axes during the Contest, the supra-divine council where control of the Multiuniverse was decided. He is a peer of Maristo (human paladin of the Eye) and of Arian (Leshay of the Pantheon), and a central figure of the old Pantheon.

History

  • The Contest: his candidacy for Helm is nominal. His body “was in a container-sack whose contents were lost on the Astral Plane”; container-sacks are planar objects that keep material forms during the Contest, and his was lost in transit.
  • King of the Dwarves: after the Three Crowns (1370 DR) he was proclaimed King of the Dwarves. The title was conferred by the new cosmic order, not inherited. He rules the dwarves of the shared cosmos, from the deep mines of Torregrises to the underground kingdoms of the A.D.A. axis; no end date of his reign is recorded.
  • Doctrine: he upholds the doctrine of the Eye in its dwarven form: where Maristo decides not to dodge, Minborgen decides to strike first, seeing the blow coming from the depths.

The Curiales

In the Curiales, the system of sin–virtue correspondences assigned to members of Rintrah, Minborgen embodies Avarice with its counterweight Generosity. The dwarves of the shared cosmos see themselves as keepers of treasures the rest of the cosmos covets. Beside him the register lists More (Pride / Humility) and Ray as an additional counterweight; the doctrine works in pairs.

The Dwarven Chronicles

The Dwarven Chronicles are a first-person narrative by the “Anonymous Dwarf”, Minborgen’s companion, who describes him as a “great dwarf warrior of strange characteristics”; the phrase was left cut off by the original copyist. Possible readings of the “strange characteristics”:

  • carrying both axes without rest, even at the common table;
  • the mark of the Eye on his forehead, borne by no other dwarf in the glossary;
  • sustaining a cosmic candidacy while still ruling on the material plane.

Open questions

  • His lost body may have ended up in the possession of Utah; this is not settled.
