Description

They rest on a pillar carved as jackal-headed Anubis. One pan holds a stone heart; the other has stood empty for three thousand years, awaiting the feather of Maat. The Ammit surround it as testing mechanisms. Only the rite, not force, opens the place.

History

Teddy Bennet, without glasses, placed his fountain pen, from his first article, in the empty pan, saying “He mentido solo una vez, pero creo en Dios” (“I have lied only once, but I believe in God”). The pen balanced the stone heart. A harmonic tone sounded, the Ammit froze into bronze, and the scales became an elevator carrying the living up to the coronation and the War Chariot of Thoth.
