The Gray Nurse is an emissary of the Black Butterfly in the close of the New York arc (1784) of Les Libertateurs: a woman with a gray nurse’s cross and a smell of sulfur, wrapped in a silvery out-of-phase bubble, an instant held outside time.

Role
In the bubble she reveals to the Libertateurs the new order that the game has brought forth: the world closed behind the platforms, with the Gem of Creation inside and the antagonist outside, “the dual universe at the edge of the abyss”. She signals that the fallen gods are the first guardians.
She names the Gem and tells its history: a seed that creates and imprisons, the reason Jock Sotot, lord of the gates, coveted this world; it hid by splitting itself in Alexandria beside the lighthouse.
Once the revelation is complete she falls silent at dawn with a gesture of silence, and her bubble dissolves.
