The Black Butterfly (Mariposa Negra) is a multiversal entity, the guardian of all worlds, imprisoned as a result of the group’s decisions.

Spanish entry Black Butterfly

Imprisonment

  • The Pretty Women prioritized this world over infinite others. Her imprisonment is the unintended consequence of their victory, and the rest of the cosmos is affected by their choice.
  • The irony of the Libertateurs: they free, but they also imprison. The cycle ends in moral ambiguity, not a clean victory.
  • She is shown in a small golden cage hanging from a chain, her wings full of constellations spilling out through the bars.

The invocation

  • She is invoked with the last host (the consecrated wafer), guided by the prayer of the mother of Billie Jean.
  • Her emissary is the nurse Gris. Through the closing she is called “the black lady of the night, the butterfly that lives among the stars.” The hooded woman of the final assault (“the butterfly of the night”) anticipates her.
  • The caging takes place at the close of the New York platforms, on the night of 21 to 22 June 1784.
