The Deck of Many Things is a major artifact of the cosmos: a deck of cards whose draw unleashes irreversible effects, from absolute wealth to the instant death of the soul. It belongs to the category of artifacts of cosmic will, objects that have no owner but choose whom to harm.
The Archive holds its own significant variant, the Deck of Many Things (Descent Variant). In the Descent gesta (campaign-cycle), Plutus introduces the deck in Circle 4, connecting it to the Dantean discourse on Fortune (Fortuna Imperatriz, “Empress Fortune”). The Jack of Clubs triggers the Avatar of Death. The Arcana (Tarot) are the system of reading crossed with the deck. The setting is the Ante-Inferno.
