History
In a pulpería he quarreled with an old man who cheated at cards; he did not kill him, but the grievance lived on. The old man killed Cruz’s son; Cruz killed the old man’s son. He was sent to the galleys for two or three years with the account unsettled. On his release he exhumed his son’s bones and carried them in his cartridge belts across his chest, like a scapular.
The militia took him in with the rank of corporal. He appears among those who opened the way in the southern gesta of the United Platforms; his trace is soon lost.
