The Temple of Ammonar is a circular, multiversal temple of Ammonar beneath a granite dome by the river south of a village, with three entrances from three realities. Built to contain what lies below, it is now abandoned, sealed and held by devils.

Description
Visible from the village, ten minutes away on horseback. The village exists because “down below there are things”.
It is “gigantic and solar”, circular, ringed by symbolic columns, like “the Pantheon in miniature and much more twisted”, poorer than the ancient elven tower. Ammonar’s winged disk crowns the lintel; the style is Assyrian, Mayan and Aztec. It has skylights; at night it shows light of unknown source.
Inside: frescoes, stelae; the naos; a central courtyard “with the fires, the ziggurat”; a fountain circling the central statue; the House of Birth and House of Death chapels; and the Aditum, reached through portals. Though 700 to a thousand years old, it is well preserved; below, it grows “ever more decadent”, with stagnant air and “slimy red stuff” high in the corridors.
Nature
It “was three times Nexo-Guerra”. Those entering one place exit at another; touching the main door teleports one to the far end. At least two underground levels hold creatures and undead; on level three was the Temple of Thoth.
Cult
Service began at eight in the morning. A priest “who knows how to rebuquear” and about ten acolytes kept the cult; one old priest taught the mass and the crusade for Ammonar, another taught fighting the undead. At funerals the body is burned, the soul transcends to the greater empyrean, and the ashes are kept in an urn for any relative who seeks them. A priest can consecrate the place and summon invisible servants to clean it.
Current state
Sealed, it is “an unholy place” under the Lady Below, entry restricted, held by devils led by Zaniel, drawn by what it connects to. Kobolds come out in numbers. To purify it, “start by breaking the pillars”; it must be cared for. A temple’s disappearance is tied to the curse of Ishtar.
Conflicting accounts
- Names given: “Ámora”, “Amunam”, “Amonar”, “Amonarte”; Amunam may be another deity.
- Other temples, unidentified with it: Caldero’s, with colored glass, visited by Foggimer, cleric of the Light; Dinaspal/Westmark’s, for the wounded; Diana’s, for priestesses; a hero’s; one teaching “the power of a lightning bolt”; and the “local temple” of Vicar Otar, a new acolyte and Celia.
Open questions
- What “Nexo-Guerra” is; where the entrances lead; who sealed it.
- What the naos holds; what the red stuff is.
- What “God stole the temple” means.
