Tortuga is a pirate port of the Antiterran Caribbean, near Puerto Rico and Haiti, a major stop of Les Libertateurs in 1784 A.D.A. on their way to Kraken’s Cove. “No law but silver.”

Description
It is reached through a deliberate labyrinth of shipwrecks that sinks anyone who does not know the way. Inside: slaves, taverns, and the provost Edward Hueso with his metal guards, sent by Admiral Pil to collect tribute from newcomers. The chronicles call it a “tax haven”, where every stolen thing finds a buyer; rubies of Leng run through its markets.
At its heart stands the temple of the turtle, a stained-glass cathedral-pagoda devoted to the god Set (“Zed”), with a Gnostic password (the true son of Adam) and a turtle statue that wakes with two rubies for eyes. The cult refers to the mother of turtles, a reptile of water and fire who bound sky, earth and waters — nine mountains, nine marshes, nine regions — and engraved the cosmic treaty on her shell.
Relationships
- The last leg leaves Tortuga for the Bay of Blood and the Kraken’s Lair, 20–30 miles away, where Blackbeard, who raided Tortuga and stole the chest of eggs, keeps his anchorage.
- Captain Kidd of Time — the admiral William “Tortuga”, later recycled as a New York philanthropist.
- The crossing set out from Antigua.
