Domains

His temple’s litany names four domains: «El sol, el calor, el campanario, la resistencia» (“The sun, the heat, the bell tower, endurance”). Justice is also attributed to him.

Symbol and vestments

His symbol is the sun, displayed in full on his officiants’ vestments. A low-ranking cleric has a shaved head and wears a priestly pallium with the sun spread across it.

A holy symbol of Pelor also exists as a portable object, valuable enough to be stolen and later used in magic ritual. Stolen, it still works; it does not need to be consecrated in a cleric’s person.

Cathedral

The cathedral (or church) of Pelor has a bell tower. The Phoenix chose it to nest in, “a place where it feels safe”.

Hierarchy

The clergy includes low-ranking clerics and a Higher Clergy (“the higher clergy, alias Pelor”), which sends emissaries and exerts moral influence over Caldero. To speak on behalf of the Higher Clergy is to speak in the god’s name. His cult is also associated with regions called Los Pelos.

Dealings

Pelor acts in three ways:

  • As authority, weighing on cities through his emissaries.
  • As a power that can be consulted, with an explicit offer and price: “I will open that door for you, but you will lose your soul.”
  • As favor in battle: warriors credit him with their success (“because Pelor goes with us we were successful”).

His dealings are sustained by prayer, offerings of artifacts and sacrifices. He is at once refuge, backer of warlike ventures and creditor of souls.

Conflicting accounts

  • One account declares him “purer” than other powers.
  • Another shows him taking a soul as the price of opening a door.

Open questions

  • In which city the cathedral stands (Caldero or another), and how it relates to the lesser temples.
  • What Los Pelos are, and their relation to the god’s name.
  • The holy symbol’s material, and what ritual it enables when stolen.
  • How many ranks lie between low-ranking cleric and Higher Clergy, and how one rises.
  • What Pelor does with the souls he collects, and whether they can be recovered.
  • The color of the palliums and the plan or size of the cathedral.
