The Monofilament Whip is a whip of strange metal filament that lights up “like monofilament electricity” and can cut a car in half — not magic but technology from the future, found in Gary in 1987.

History
The old woman of the bar wore it at her waist “like a jewel”. When she reached for it, someone shot her in the arm; the whip lit anyway, cut the table in half and coiled around the shooter’s arm — “let go or I’ll let go of your soul”. A second shot, near the groin, brought her down.
In the workshop, doors shut, Glob examined it with his dimensional sight: it is not magic but a strange technology. “It’s the future.” In 1987 such a weapon does not exist and will not for fifty years. In the cathedral of the abandoned church, when the tracker Chantal asked for something at the temple, a second steel monofilament whip formed in her hand from the basin, liquid and vibrating. The Genesis Foundation kept it in an airport tray, like a jewel.
Meaning
The whip arrived before the eclipse and the portals: Iron Mountain did not open the eras, it made visible that they were already seeping through. The era it comes from — like the “cyborg business” of the Five Cocoons — is 2087, the apocalyptic future that would come with destruction. Kendall, another walking anachronism, crossed paths with it in the dark ship.
