Keres is a red-eyed bronze automaton of the Never 9-11 chronicle, the “right hand of Talos,” whose touch drains the attributes of its victims. Sent to the Moon in the service of Mars, it was destroyed there by the White Monkey.

Nature

It stands guard on the split Moon among the galleries the worm opens in the rock. It descends directly from Talos’s matrix (the same living bronze, the same seamless make) and is the giant’s second and executor. Its red eyes show that it is awake.

Powers

Each contact drains the victim’s attributes, a portion of what makes them strong, fast or whole; the vitality passes to the bronze body. The opponent weakens as the automaton grows stronger, so brute force is useless: the harder it is struck, the stronger it becomes.

Role

It was sent to the Moon in the service of Mars Inc., in the operation by which the corporation sought to recover the ambrosia (the essence of the gods) that had ended up on the satellite. It was the guardian set over that loot. The Four Reasons, Mars’s omegadrones, were its companions in the lunar operation.

Death

The White Monkey brought it down with his dimensional anchor rifle: a titanium bullet fired through a wormhole and finished by gravity. Keres fell on the Moon.
