Role
Uniformed and hospitable, he carries the newcomers from one side of the peat to the other, settles them and distributes them among the houses — not accompanying the Argentines but moving them where the Order wants them. He is recorded as “in cahoots with the widow” of Brockford House: her partner and the arm that executes her decisions.
The cylinder
In low voices, in English, he coordinates with Betsy the transport of the cylinder holding the blue stone at the center of everything on the island, and of “the other” (“you brought the other… bring it here”) — the hybrid son the house awaits. He brings to the house the material the brotherhood needs, which later, in the lighthouse, is revealed as a living organ. He neither prays nor transforms: he transports, opens doors and brings what must be brought. At the close of those days he remains the Order’s loyal hand, still trusted by the newcomers with their transport.
