Possessions
She keeps a phylactery tied to her long years and her youth, and a ring from her days of arms.
The favor and the promise
After a performance by Dandy, Gunhilda gave him private attention: she let fall a lock of her hair for him, and there were encounters in corridors and among stored furs, intimacy, and a request to leave that provincial prison. Dandy spoke of a kingdom for the two of them and managed to hide his movements from Svein the Loyal.
Gunhilda kept her phylactery. What she gave was the ring, though she feared its absence might reach her husband’s ears and endanger her life. Dandy left with his companions. She remains at court.
Open questions
- Whether Burkestein has discovered the relationship, and whether the promised flight has taken place, is not recorded.
- The giant woman called Gunnhild in the account of the infiltration by Sidqa is not identified with this queen on the basis of the similar name.
