Hope is the animic force that governs the descent in the Inferno — Ante-Inferno gesta (campaign-cycle). It works as a breath that the group invokes and consumes in major trances: to call the Dantean figures to its aid, or to sustain what the circles of the Pit normally extinguish.
When it is exhausted, it defines the condition of the Lost One, a soul that no longer operates hope as a living act. Swedenborg carries the Lamp of Hope, its material sign: the fire that does not go out even when crossing the circles.
