Captain Alatino (also Captain Latino, Il Capitano Latino) is a slave-trading swordsman in a black-plumed hat, leader of the guard of the mines of Mount Nevermind.
He appeared riding a mine cart, preceded by a light, with a dry accent and a drawn sword. He was escorted by four or five slavers (a crossbowman, a monk, a burly fat man and a hopping ñomito) and by Mamica Cárcel, back on her feet.
His fate was settled in a duel of champions against La Plume, the man in the white-plumed hat, who did not hesitate to challenge him: white plume against black, seven formal rounds. Alatino broke the parley, and for that he fell: he was killed, split by the axe of the barbarian Delcan in a rage. On examination, his plume, his badge of honor, proved false.
