He introduced himself with the formula «Stormy Carter, me dicen. Traigo vientos de tormenta.» (“They call me Stormy Carter. I bring storm winds.“) Whether this was a real power, a nickname or ceremony was never established.
History
Stormy served briefly in the 10th Cavalry Regiment of the Buffalo Soldiers. By the time he joined his company he was a musician who played guitar, made songs and used them to greet strangers (“Welcome, miss, I’ll play you a welcome song”).
Death
He died fighting the dragon transformed into a rabbit. He was struck by lightning, and one bolt threw him through the air: “Stormy flies into the sea.” The rabbit cut off his leg, which a companion picked up (“I’ll grab the leg!”). He is said to have shouted inspiring words as he died.
Funeral
His death interrupted the sharing of the loot (“leave that… our companion who died, for God’s sake”). His companions recovered his body, his leg, his guitar and the 4,500 gold coins he carried. He was laid in “a holy sepulcher”, named only for its sacred character. They resolved to remember him and play songs that night. The words “Don’t talk about Stormy!” were also spoken.
Legacy
His guitar passed to a companion (“I kept Stormy’s guitar”), and with it his role as the band’s musician.
