Dragon Egg is an object feared both as a bomb and as an incubating dragon egg, bearing a countdown that starts when it is moved. Several factions seek it.

TypeObject (weapon or egg, disputed)
Spanish entryHuevo de dragón

Description

It rests on the ground, not in a pit, coated in “a kind of radioactive glitter”, red-orange, “that exudes something”. A continuous metallic tinkling signals it is “about to explode and collapse very soon”. A counter on it shows the days remaining. Those who carried it fell ill. One record calls it the Black Egg; its color is recognizable at sight.

Nature

“Many fear that it is a bomb or that it is a dragon, a dragon egg.” Its declared origin is an ancient weapons module; the suspicion is that it is incubating. Originally a dragon egg was stolen by the father of Garkhan; it was “the ugly duckling of the dragons”.

The counter

It activates when the egg is moved. The display showed hours; the lord of the sand (señor de la arena), “the only one who could understand that counter”, converted it to “minus 30 days”, and “at least 29 days surely passed”. Other readings give 17 days at three moments, and later 15 days. At zero, explosion and collapse are feared, reaching from “the whole underground complex” to the entire world.

Locations and role

It has been recorded near the Tower Ob Caligni; under a marilith statue, kept by a female guardian; in the cavern and cloisters ruled by a vampire; with the lord of the sand, who took it because he could read it; and finally with a company of companions. The knights speak of “the egg, at least the one you have”.

The vampire, “the source of all the corruption in this cavern”, who “dominates all living beings”, depended on the egg to control the cloisters’ fauna; taking it frees the region from him. It “can be a weapon against that head” (the intellect-head).

Its guards: the marilith guardian; “the Grr, who are guarding, because there are risks”; a separate personal guard; and the knights. The counter needs an interpreter.

Claimants

  • The Black House seeks to capture it.
  • Ob Caligni “wants whatever is in that egg”, and is suggested to have possessed Garkhan (“the cursed Garcan”) to throw it.
  • A sorcerer means to “release the Black Tempest and master the dragon egg”.
  • An order of knights: “we must guard that ourselves”.

“The egg has to do with the Khan, not with the debt. The egg has to do with death.”

Open questions

  • Whether the locations and readings belong to one egg or several, and whether the Black Egg is this object.
  • Its size, the illness’s symptoms and cure, and what the coating exudes.
  • Whether something is born or everything explodes at zero.
