The Uchronic Guardians are a counted lineage of guardians bound to territories and eras, whose law of succession is «el que mata al guardián se vuelve guardián» (“whoever kills the guardian becomes the guardian”).

Origin
The first guardians “were fallen gods” from another world, dragged into a rift; “then they died and others took their place”; “the game of the platforms restarts cyclically”. Being killed does not free a guardian.
Nature
A guardian “becomes part of a motif, like a total work” with actions to fulfil in time, “like a musical composition”. Each has a territory with “certain controls, mists” and “becomes the time of an era”, with “certain rights but also definitely obligations”. The “curse of the uchronic guardians” can be lifted, ending one’s service as a “guardian of war”; the procedure is not recorded.
Functions
- Jailers: “the guardians are jailers”.
- Gatekeepers of the planes: passage between planes is “permitted by guardians”; travelers see “a glow of the guardian who sent them here”.
- Guardians of time: they repair “the multiple timelines” and act against those who abuse time travel.
They leave marks called selleres (“seals” or “sealers”), appear gaunt on mirrors (flecados Preclaros), and are sensed with the mind: Elías “senses twenty guardians” in an area, four of whom “do not know where they are”.
Number and branches
There are twenty-four guardians under dominion, seated in Venice. Related branches: the Cosmic Guardians of Alpha Centauri, keepers of the Akashic records and “possible memories”; those fixed in the Warburg Library, in the tree; and those allied with inevitable beings from beyond the cosmos, guarding brechas renales (“renal breaches”) against chaos and lower-phase religions. Antiterra “used to have” guardians.
Role
“If all the guardian platforms are not summoned there will be a major imbalance”; “by controlling the guardians one can move the Earth and save it”. Graz’zt wants to dominate all the platform lords in the council and sends his twelve children against the twenty-four.
One company were “the guardians of war” and remain bound to it; their vow is “to resolve what we generated in the war of the future”. The crime that condemned them is made clear at Kosovo in 1389; in 1914 the uchronic guardians “had a destiny of double personality”. The father of one companion belonged to the order of the guardians of time, which exists “through generations” and knows of the Templars of Time.
Conflicting accounts
- Whether Graz’zt dominates the twenty-four is answered both yes and no.
- Twenty-four guardians face twelve children who “will kill the 12 guardians”.
- A monastic doctrine trains guardian-monks as rulers; it may describe the same order or another sharing the name.
Open questions
- Are the “chronal” and “uchronic” guardian the same, or is the guardian of time a wider genus?
- Are the guardians of the Zodiacal Platforms the same hierarchy?
- What do flecados, selleres and brechas renales mean, and why mirrors?
- Who the alluded founder is, and what the “concert of years” is, are unknown.
- Appearance, dress, voice and age are not recorded.
