The Seekers are a small remnant order with no oath, rite or known seat: one becomes a Seeker when “your heart makes you a seeker”. They wear bluish Gothic armor and live under a grace period, a bounty and a large collateral debt.

Description

They are few, “what is left of them”. The bluish Gothic armor is their uniform. The delegation numbers six, of whom four are Seekers.

Constraints

  • Immunity — “we have a week of immunity” against bounty hunters and pursuers; accounts give six or seven days. After it, they are legal prey.
  • Bounty — “something like a thousand for each one”, per head; the currency is not stated.
  • Collateral — to rescue a knight from the arena they pledged 18 billion gold by contract.

Activities

According to Starko, who was hired to hunt them, they extract elven magical artifacts from ancient foundations and deliver them. From one they took “a sort of closed trunk with runes and a thorn sticking out”: the golden branch.

In the Underground Cavern they are famous, “rockstars”, seen as heroes or as a serious threat. They traveled the Forgotten Road for two days, and the mists and shadows of Caladan displaced them. They were handed over, with the Barumani, in strategic alliances, to serve as “banque” (vanguard or bench) in the war against the Knights of the Scar of the Sun.

Conflicting accounts

  • The displacement on the Forgotten Road was “at least some 20 meters” in one account and “50 or 60 kilometers” in another.

Open questions

  • Who grants the immunity and who set the bounty are unknown.
  • Whether Starko’s targets were these Seekers or an earlier generation is unclear.
  • To whom they delivered the artifacts is not established.
  • Any hierarchy, seat or rite beyond the heart’s desire is unrecorded.
