Billie Jean is a blind half-elf who became guardian of Alexandria by defeating the previous protector guardian; he guards the city and drives out “the devils who still dare to stay”. He is also recorded as a guardian of Libra.

| Role | Guardian of Alexandria |
| Spanish entry | Billie Jean |
Description
He has brown hair, fine elegant fingers and hands “faster than the others”, and moves nimbly and silently, like a cat. He carries two short swords. Under his clothes he wears a shirt “of fine mail with an awe-inspiring silver”; over it, a darkish cloak “like a black panther skin, something kind of strange”. A small backpack of metal gadgets rattles as he moves; their purpose is not recorded.
He is blind: «Camina ciego, como la justicia.» (“He walks blind, like justice.“)
Office
His seat is the lighthouse, where he is recorded climbing the spiral stair.
He is also recorded as guardian of Libra together with Maddy; passage or approval there depends on the consent of both guardians. A third record names “Ercebet and Jean Bull” as platform guardians in Aries.
Deeds and alliances
He works through alliances; one who knows him says they help each other, “since we both want to free this place of devils, demons”. He is credited with killing a cursed Frenchman. He is part of the system of guardians that sustains Antiterra.
Lineage
Though a good and dignified man, he descends from a señor avizal (meaning unclear) and belongs to “this dynasty of condemned kings, so to speak, of condemned guardians”. What the curse consists of is not revealed.
Conflicting accounts
- Whether “Jean Bull” of Aries is the same man, another person or a misheard name; whether one guardian holds three seats, held them in succession, or these are three people.
Open questions
- The spelling alternates between “Billie Jean” and “Billy Jean”.
- Whether all guardians walk blind; whether his blindness is physical, ritual or acquired with the office.
- Who Maddy is and whether of equal rank; what the Libra approval enables and what happens when it is refused.
- Who the cursed Frenchman was, why he was cursed and where he fell.
