Description
Among dead tracks and sheds of a city that long ago stopped sending and receiving freight, it is a row of cement and iron waiting for trains that no longer come. The city already called it “the station”. It is the more discreet of the two entrances, and so the one the people below use. Its tunnels run not under the lake but back toward the city, meeting the concrete foundations and metal platforms of the industrial front — Gary seen from below, with iron veins in the rock and concave stretches of dwarven work. The Arachnids spun its fine-stranded tunnels; Aunt Nancy reigned below.
Name
That one entrance is called a platform, in a gesta whose ultimate secret is the platforms of the zodiac (Zodiacal Platforms), is noted: Gary is the platform of Cancer, though in 1987 no one above knew. The deepest bottom of the complex is Iron Mountain.
