Muṭīl al-ʿumr (مطيل العمر, “he who prolongs the lifespan”) is a guardian of the veil of time, both enemy and cosmic force, whose powers include conscious reincarnation. The form “Tahuila Lummus” is a mishearing of the Arabic taṭwīl al-ʿumr.

Name
- Taṭwīl al-ʿumr (تطويل العمر), “prolongation of the lifespan”, names the process.
- The agent takes the participle form: muṭīl al-ʿumr (form IV, classical) or muṭawwil al-ʿumr (مطوّل العمر, form II). As a being, his proper name is the agent’s.
- The word is ʿumr — the count of years granted, the measured term — not ḥayāt, life as existence. He does not breathe life; he stretches the count.
Powers
Conscious reincarnation: a consciousness that wakes in another body, time and life without losing its thread. He “has had a lot to do with other sagas lately”, and his workings intertwine with those of Abraxas.
Open questions
- Is he an echo of Abdul Alhazred, Lovecraft’s mad Arab, whose name tradition also links to an unholy longevity?
