Pablo Casas is the male protagonist of Pablo and Miranda. He lives in a “pit” in Torregrises; his opening declaration is “One day you wake up in Torregrises, bosom of the hidden cities.”

Description

He is a tormented artist who writes in notebooks. His relationship with Miranda (Torregrises) is intermittent and frustrated, mediated by cold and madness. He becomes erratic: “Pablo does not see things. Screens.” In the “Balcony scene” he speaks in a delirious pseudo-baroque language.

Death

He immolates himself with Miranda, burned “by mutual agreement.” The notebook survives the fire (“anti-fire”). A recurring phrase is “Pablo and Miranda have died without having been born.”
