Operation Armistice was a Soviet operation to end the Cold War before it began, by installing in advance a means of control based on psychic domination and portals — miniature wormholes opened where the fabric of reality is thin — with Gary, Indiana as its main site.

Concept
The portals needed a material support: a ring of iron and steel. Gary was chosen not for its fallen industry or convenient abandonment (a city taken over by gangs) but for what lies beneath: an old crossing of energies, equivalent to the megalith sites of Europe, with iron that may have been meteoric. The Indians knew it and had their Iron Confederacy there; later all the iron of the Europeans passed through; some say the arrival of the African world woke the ancient forces. The Soviets had not spent all their nuclear power on bombs: there were other experiments in Kamchatka and the north, perhaps bases in Alaska. Armistice was the tip of that other branch.
The agent
The operation is known through a single man: a sleeper agent, recently activated, with no firm name in the record, ordered to infiltrate the Genesis Foundation, which seemed to be building exactly what the Soviets had planned there. He received ciphered Morse messages in colloquial English to hide in plain sight: “Ask the kids, follow their lead.” His task was to learn how much the Foundation knew about the place.
Outcome
The iron ring the Soviet engineers wanted to raise beneath Gary already existed, finished, far larger and some eight thousand years older: Iron Mountain, a hollow mountain of portals sealed by eclipses.
